Windrush Day 22 June

Windrush Day takes place on 22nd June and marks 76 years since the SS Empire Windrush arrived at Tilbury Docks in Essex in 1948. The former German navy troopship brought Caribbean migrants to the UK to help rebuild Britain after the Second World War. 

Windrush Day aims to encourage communities across the country to celebrate the specific contribution of the Windrush Generation and their descendants to UK society along with the positive legacy of migration generally.

People from all over the world have made, and continue to make, their home in Nottinghamshire and we would love to hear their stories.

Museumand

Museumand – the National Caribbean Heritage Museum was formed by Nottingham-based Catherine Ross and Lynda Burrell. This is a social and community history museum without walls, dedicated to commemorating and celebrating the Caribbean contribution to life in Nottingham and the UK.
