About this course

Art Mixed Media will give you the opportunity to explore a range of experimental mixed media techniques including collage, pen and inks, frottage, typographic printing, and painting and stenciling. We will be focusing on using these techniques in different ways to build up fragmented or abstracted compositions. Some experience of drawing and painting is useful, but not essential as each week we will experiment with a different process (or processes in combination). It will be fun!

You will learn about how you can use these media and techniques creatively through looking at and discussing other artists work and by demonstrations, personal experimentation and individual tuition.

By the end of the course everyone will have explored and gained confidence in a range of experimental, creative techniques, produced some effective developmental images and gained skills for future art and design work.

What will be covered on the course?

Looking at and discussing how other artists have used experimental techniques in their work to explore ideas.
Using inks to explore mark making and different qualities of line.
Use different media to produce textures to use in collage experiments.
Use text and printmaking techniques to explore ideas.
Using painting and stenciling techniques to explore colour, layering and composition.
Becoming confident with different mixed media techniques and learning the correct terminology.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

The skills to use experimental techniques and media effectively.
Knowledge and understanding of the different ways historic and contemporary artists use experimental techniques and media to communicate ideas and meaning.
Confidence in their own creative skills and ability.
What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course?
Some art experience would be helpful, but not essential as all learners will be taught based on their own experience.

Pencil sharpener
Palette
Acrylic paint set
Range of synthetic paint brushes
A3 white cartridge paper pad (good quality not recycled paper)
Water pot
Oil pastels (if you have them)
Letter stamps (if you have them)
I sheet Stencil card(aka stencil paper oiled manilla) London Graphic Centre, Cass Art, Cowling and Wilcox

Most of the equipment and materials can be bought from Wilkos, WH Smith, Hobby craft, The Range or Amazon.
