About this course

Creative Textiles is a relaxed beginner-friendly course where you will explore different ways of working with fabric, fibre, thread and embellishment. Each week you will create small textile samples using techniques such as simple knotting, weaving, stitching, beading and fabric decoration, which can be mounted, kept as samples or combined into a small decorative panel.

During the course, you will experiment with a range of creative textile techniques such as knotting, weaving and fabric embellishment to create small creative samplers. You will explore colour, texture, pattern and surface decoration using materials such as yarn, fabric scraps, threads, beads, buttons and recycled textiles.

These can be joined together, mounted, or kept as a reference for future creative work. The focus will be on experimenting, building confidence. You are encouraged to use your existing craft and textiles and combine them with new found techniques.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

• Create a small collection of textile samples using fabric, fibre, thread and embellishments.

• Use simple knotting, weaving or wrapping techniques to create texture.

• Apply basic hand stitching, beading or fabric embellishment to decorate a textile sample.

• Combine colour, pattern and texture to develop a personal textile square or sample.

• Arrange or present textile samples by mounting, joining or displaying them in a simple way.

• Share your work with others and identify at least one technique you would like to use again or develop further.
