In our six sessions, you will experiment with writing poetry about the challenges and opportunities we face on our planet. So, if you are interested in the natural world or space travel or something in between, come along and give this course a try. No science background is needed, (but welcome if you have it!) - just a little curiosity. Everyone is welcome as the course is aimed at poetry beginners as well as those who have written before.
During this course, we will cover:
Using existing poems as a scaffold to start your own
How to find out and use scientific facts in poems
How your senses and life experience are starting points for writing poems
Using objects and gadgets as starting points to inspire your poems
An introduction to the shape and form of poetry
Using your ideas about the world of the future to create poems
Transferable skills such as how to express opinions in the group and how to give/receive constructive feedback
What you will need for your course:
a pen/pencil and notebook preferably A4. Smart phone is useful for fact checking
