About this course

This beginner crochet course will help learners build basic skills while working towards making a small bag of their choice.

Learners will be shown how to hold a crochet hook and yarn, and how to use US simple crochet stitches, including slip stitch, single, half double, double and treble crochet. They will also learn about different types of yarn and hooks.

The course will introduce the history of crochet and explain the differences between UK and US crochet terms, as well as how to understand hook sizes.

By the end of the course, learners will have created a small project, improved their confidence, and gained the skills needed to continue crocheting on their own.

This course is suitable for complete beginners and no previous experience is needed.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • DEMONSTRATE HOW TO HOLD A CROCHET HOOK AND YARN/WOOL.

  • CREATE A SMALL BAG OF YOUR OWN CHOOSING, USING A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT STITCHES.

  • DEVELOP FINE MOTOR SKILLS AND IDENTIFY HOW THEY CAN BE TRANSFERRED INTO A WORK ENVIRONMENT.

  • PERFORM A SINGLE, DOUBLE, TREBLE AND SLIP STITCH.

  • CONFIDENTLY CONVERT HOOK SIZES FROM UK TO US AND IDENTIFY THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UK AND US PATTERNS.

What you will need to bring:

A drink – water or juice, notebook and pen, a hook size 4/4.5/or 5 and light-coloured yarn/wool
