About this course

About this course

In this course, you will be taught how to draw a still life using dry media (graphite pencils), based on a photo reference and from observation. Tuition is provided through a mixture of demonstrations and exercises according to your needs, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of still life drawing. No prior experience required – suitable for beginners. 


Working with our professional art tutor, on this course you will:

  • Understand the proportion and the quality of the line 
  • Know how to work out innovative, dynamic compositions  
  • Develop sketching techniques
  • Develop drawing techniques: hatching and cross hatching and blending 
  • By the end of this course you will know how to use the dry media, the rules of composition and some basic techniques. The course is aimed to give learners a good understanding of the processes by using examples and demonstrations.

You will need:

  • Sketch pad, a set of graphite pencils (HB, B, 2B, 4B. 6B), a selection of 3 simple objects
