This course will give you the opportunity to further develop your modern embroidery skills through a range of creative projects and exercises. You will build confidence in using more advanced embroidery techniques while exploring texture, colour, composition, and decorative surface design. Working in a supportive and creative environment, you will create a personalised embroidered piece and develop your own creative style.
This course is suitable for learners who have completed a beginner's embroidery course or who already have a basic knowledge of embroidery techniques.
Throughout the course, learners will develop their modern embroidery skills by exploring a wider range of stitches, materials, and decorative techniques. The course will cover planning and developing embroidered designs, creating texture and visual interest, and using embroidery in a more expressive and creative way.
Learners will have opportunities to experiment with different materials and approaches while developing confidence in selecting appropriate techniques for their own work. Inspiration will be drawn from a variety of contemporary and traditional embroidery styles.
Learning will take place through tutor demonstrations, practical activities, discussion, and individual support. By the end of the course, learners will have produced a completed embroidered piece and developed the skills and confidence to continue their embroidery journey independently.
What you will need to bring to the course:
Light-coloured cotton or linen fabric (a plain old or spare pillowcase that you are happy to cut up will be suitable)
An embroidery hoop
Embroidery needles – Large eye and sharp point.
Embroidery thread/floss in a few colours of your choice
Small scissors
Friction pen or pencil
