This course shows you how gestural brushstrokes and mark-making gives the impression of spontaneity in your compositions. You will benefit from this course as your style of painting will become looser, full of energy and colour. Experiment the pure joy of mark-making by playing with colour and texture using non-traditional tools.
What You Will Learn
Gestural Techniques: Learn how to use expressive, free-flowing brushstrokes to bring life and movement into your work.
Mark-Making Methods: Explore a variety of tools—beyond the brush—to create dynamic textures and spontaneous marks.
Colour Exploration: Gain confidence in using bold and unexpected colour combinations to evoke emotion and energy.
Layering and Texture: Discover how to build depth and interest through layering acrylics and experimenting with different mediums and materials.
Letting Go of Perfection: Develop a looser painting style by embracing imperfection and trusting your intuition.
By the end of the workshop, learners will create an expressive landscape painting using acrylic techniques while actively developing social skills through collaborative discussion, constructive peer feedback, and shared reflection on creative choices.
Resources you need to bring:
Acrylic paper/sketch pad, A4 canvas, white gesso, a range of synthetic paint brushes, photo reference, metallic palette knife, acrylic paint (student grade)
