Social Conscience and Dramatic Tension in An Inspector Calls.
This course will explore the dramatic techniques and structure of An Inspector Calls.
Provide insight to fully understand the historical and social context of the play.
Analyse Priestley’s message and how it is conveyed through characterisation and dialogue.
Examine themes such as social responsibility, class, capitalism, and generational conflict.
Develop skills in literary analysis, critical thinking, and close reading.
Course Summary:
Identify and analyse the key themes and characters in the play.
Understand how Priestley uses dramatic form and language to convey meaning.
Explain the impact of historical and social context on the play’s message.
Evaluate differing interpretations of the play’s ending and its genre.
Discuss the relevance of the play’s themes in contemporary society.
By the end of the course, you will: Produce analytical insights on characters, themes, and context. Participate in discussions on moral and ethical questions raised in the play. Use quotations accurately in support of interpretations. Demonstrate understanding of dramatic irony, tension, and symbolism. Reflect critically on personal and societal responsibility

If you are living in the UK on a visa we will require evidence of this in order to be funded for the course, you can upload this evidence when you apply for the course. (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
Some exceptions may apply for example
Your visa expiry date must be beyond the end of your course
Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered by the Home Office
You are receiving local authority support under section 23C or section 23CA of the Children Act 1989 or the Care Act 2014
