Understanding and managing emotions is a key part of every child’s development. This 3-week course is designed to support parents and carers in developing strategies to help their children recognise, name, and manage their emotions in healthy and productive ways. Through a combination of practical activities, discussion, and reflection, learners will explore how emotions develop, how they are expressed, and how to guide children through emotional challenges using age-appropriate tools and techniques.
By the end of the course, parents and carers will be able to:
Identify three key aspects of early brain development and how it impacts on emotional responses in children aged 2–11 (Week 1).
Describe and recognise at least five common emotional responses in children and how they may present through behaviour or body language (Week 1).
Demonstrate at least three practical strategies for helping children name and associate emotions using creative and sensory-based methods (Week 2).
Apply at least three different coping or calming techniques to help children manage their emotions, including sensory tools and relaxation strategies (Week 3).
Reflect on your own parenting approach and develop a personalised toolkit of emotional support strategies to use with your child (Week 3).
As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop or computer will be required to access the course. The link for you to join the live sessions will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.
