Jewellery Making - Earrings - Beeston Library - Adult Learning

Learn how to make your own beaded earrings in this relaxed beginner-friendly course. You will explore simple tools, beads, findings and wire techniques to create a range of earring styles, from simple drops to more elaborate designs.

We will begin with basic drop earrings, learning how to attach beads to ear wires or clip-on findings.

As the course progresses, you will explore different ways to adapt your earring designs using colour themes, different bead shapes, and creating earrings with movement or multiple drops.

Each session will include demonstrations and supported practice, with time to create your own designs. No previous jewellery making skills are required.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Identify and use basic earring-making tools and materials, including pliers, beads, headpins, jump rings and ear wires.

• Create a pair of simple beaded drop earrings using headpins and loops.

• Practise making neat loops and wrapped loops to join beads and findings securely.

• Use colour, shape, length and movement to design at least two different earring styles.

• Create a small collection of finished earrings to keep, gift or sell,

• Share your designs with others and identify one technique or style you would like to develop further.

You will need:

-A selection of beads (These can be new beads, beads you already have, or beads from old/broken jewellery)

-Jewellery or craft wire, in 0.6mm diameter.

-Headpins

-Earwires or clip on earrings with a loop.

-A bead mat or tray is optional, but useful to stop beads rolling away.

-If you have jewellery pliers please do bring them, but the tutor will have some to borrow.

Please note there will be no session on 20th November.

Residency Requirements (Additional Information)

If you live in the UK on a visa, we’ll need evidence of your visa to confirm funding. You can upload this when applying, and you’ll need to complete a short questionnaire.

Some exceptions include:

• Your visa must last until after your course ends.

• Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for at least 6 months while their claim is being processed.

• You are supported by your local authority under Section 23C or 23CA of the Children Act 1989, or under the Care Act 2014.

Anyone who does not meet the funding criteria would need to pay full course fees.
