Mixed Media Florals - Arnold Library - Adult Learning

Mixed media means using different art mediums, materials and techniques to create art. You will be using mixed media to create a series of artworks based on florals.

Each week you will be introduced to different artists and will be exploring different mixed media techniques and mediums such as inks, paint, collage and stitch to create a series of small mixed media artworks inspired by the artist’s work.

The course will build your confidence in using different art materials, mediums and techniques, and you will have the opportunity to probably try out ones that you have never used before. You will be guided through demonstrations and individual tuition to encourage experimentation and to build your knowledge and skills for future art and designs projects.

Over the duration of four weeks, you will be learning about basic colour theory and how to plan simple compositions. You will be using a combination of mixed media techniques with a range of different mediums such as inks, modelling paste with stencils and watercolour paints. Mark-making exercises will encourage you to loosen up, experiment and create interesting paper and fabric collage fodder to work with in your artwork. You will also explore some simple hand-stitching to embellish your paper and fabric artworks and ideas will be given on next steps for your finished pieces.

Please note there will be no session 21/09/2026.

You will need

• A notebook or sketchbook and pen/pencil.

• A glue stick.

• Pictures of flowers. These can be photos from your garden. Photocopies from books and magazines. Images that you have sourced on the Internet. Try and choose different sized flowers with small and large flower heads and also interesting leaves too!
