Take your nature journalling to the next level with this creative and reflective course designed for those who have already explored the basics.
Whether you want to improve your drawing, experiment with layout, or deepen your connection to the natural world, this course will help you develop your own unique journalling style while capturing the changing seasons around you.
In this course, you’ll build on your existing skills by improving drawing skills, exploring new techniques, experimenting with materials and page design, and enhancing your written reflections.
Each week will focus on a different aspect of nature journalling, from observational sketching and creative writing to designing seasonal snapshot pages.
Through guided activities, group discussion, and personal exploration, you’ll gain confidence in expressing your observations and emotions through your journal.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Apply a range of drawing and layout techniques to create visually engaging journal pages.
Demonstrate improved observational skills through detailed sketches and seasonal studies.
Compose reflective and creative writing entries that complement visual elements.
Evaluate different journalling styles and identify personal preferences.
Create a cohesive collection of journal entries that reflect seasonal changes and personal growth
What you will need to bring to the course:
Sketchbook or journal with suitable paper for drawing and painting (with watercolours/gouache)
Pencils (variety of hardness e.g., H. HB. 2B)
A soft eraser or a putty rubber
A ruler
A black fine liner pen (preferably waterproof e.g., a UniBall Uni Pin pen or Micron pen)
What other art materials you bring will depend on what your preferences are (I would recommend paints for adding colour to sketches – e.g., watercolour paints or watercolour pencils and/or a set of coloured pencils.
If you receive certain benefits you will be offered the course for free, however if you have a financial barrier which may prevent you from enrolling on the course, please visit our funding page for further information.
