Needle Felting Advanced - Worksop Library - Adult Learning

This course is designed for learners who already have experience of basic 2D and 3D needle felting and are ready to develop their skills further through more advanced construction techniques.

Working in a friendly and supportive environment, you will create increasingly detailed three-dimensional felted figures while exploring new methods of construction, shaping, and finishing. You will develop skills in creating articulated and poseable forms, using internal supports and armatures, refining surfaces, adding texture and decorative details, and bringing individual character to your work.

Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to personalise your projects, develop your creative confidence, and build on your existing needle felting knowledge while creating unique handcrafted pieces.

Throughout the course, you will explore a range of advanced needle felting techniques used to create more detailed and professional-looking figures.

You will learn how to:

Work from templates and proportions to create consistent components.

Construct and assemble multi-part felted figures.

Create articulated or poseable elements using specialist joining techniques.

Build simple wire armatures and internal supports.

Apply texture, fur and decorative fibre effects to enhance finished pieces.

Improve surface refinement and finishing techniques.

Develop confidence in planning, constructing, and evaluating more complex projects.

Personalise projects through colour, embellishment, and creative design choices.

The course will include tutor demonstrations, practical activities, discussion, and individual support. Learners will also develop transferable skills such as project planning, quality checking, problem solving and creative decision-making, which are valuable in both craft enterprise and wider workplace settings.

By the end of the course, you will have completed a range of advanced needle felted projects and gained the confidence to continue developing your skills independently.

A selection of felting needles.

A felting mat such as upholstery foam, a specialist felting mat, or a car-washing sponge.

A selection of carded and roving needle felting wool in colours suitable for your chosen project.

Small plastic safety eyes (approximately 3–6mm).

Small sharp scissors for trimming fibres and finishing work.

Residency Requirements (Additional Information)

If you live in the UK on a visa, we’ll need evidence of your visa to confirm funding. You can upload this when applying, and you’ll need to complete a short questionnaire.

Some exceptions include:

• Your visa must last until after your course ends.

• Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for at least 6 months while their claim is being processed.

• You are supported by your local authority under Section 23C or 23CA of the Children Act 1989, or under the Care Act 2014.

Anyone who does not meet the funding criteria would need to pay full course fees.
