Have you always wanted to try making a sculpture but don’t know where to start? Sculpture for beginners is a course that will introduce you to confidently creating small scale sculptures. You will be introduced to a variety of materials that sculptors use to create their work. Using air dry clay you will then create your own small scale sculpture(s) based on the work by famous sculptors Barbara Hepworth (1903 – 1975) and Henry Moore (1898 – 1986).
Over the course of the 6 weeks, you will learn about the sculptures that Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore created and the variety of materials and tools they used. You will also learn how to successfully design and develop ideas to make your own small scale sculptures using air dry clay and the appropriate tools.
By the end of the course, you will:
Build confidence using clay techniques.
Build confidence using tools and equipment for clay.
Create your very own small scale sculpture(s).
Understand the work created by Barbara Hepworth (1903 – 1975) and Henry Moore (1898 – 1986).
Build confidence in working with others to help integrate into a work environment.
Understand costing your work for selling purposes.
What resources/course materials do learners need to bring for the course?
A basic sketchbook/notepad or paper to draw onto, a pen, pencil, rubber, sharpener, clay tools (Amazon sell packs of tools from as little as £5.99) 2 packs of air dry clay (any colour is fine 1000g) or you may want to bring more for a bigger sculpture!
Suggested Day Out for the course:
Before the beginning of the course if you have time visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (ysp.org.uk). The park is a great day out (book in advance) and has a wonderful collection of sculptures on show indoors and outdoors where you will not only find the work of Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore but the work of up and coming sculptors too!
