Sculpture Next Steps - LOCO Centre - Adult Learning

Sculpture Next Steps is a course that will help expand your skills and show you how you can confidently create small or large scale sculptures. You will be introduced to a variety of materials that sculptors use to create their work. Using air dry clay and other materials such as wood and natural materials you will then create your own large scale sculpture(s).

Over the course of the 6 weeks, you will learn about various materials and tools sculptors use. You will also learn how to successfully design and develop ideas to make your own large scale sculptures using air dry clay, other materials and the appropriate tools.

By the end of the course, you will:

• Build confidence using clay techniques.

• Build confidence using tools and equipment for clay.

• Create your very own large scale sculpture(s).

• Build confidence in working with others to help integrate into a work environment.

• Understand costing your work for selling purposes.

You will need:

A basic sketchbook/notepad or paper to draw onto, a pen, pencil, rubber, sharpener, clay tools (Amazon sell packs of tools from as little as £5.99) 4 packs of air dry clay (any colour is fine). You will be advised each week what to bring.

Suggested Day Out for the course:

Before the beginning of the course if you have time visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (ysp.org.uk). The park is a great day out (book in advance) and has a wonderful collection of sculptures on show indoors and outdoors. Take some photos and get inspired!

Living in England

To book and join one of our courses, you must live in England permanently and either:

• Live inside the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) area (Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire)

or

• Live outside the devolved areas listed below

You cannot enrol if you live in these devolved areas:

• Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA)

• Liverpool City Region Combined Authority

• North East Combined Authority

• South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority

• Tees Valley Combined Authority

• West Midlands Combined Authority

• West of England Combined Authority

• West Yorkshire Combined Authority

• Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority

• York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority

• Hull and East Yorkshire

• Greater Lincolnshire

• Devon and Torbay Combined County Authority

• Cornwall Council

• Lancashire Combined County Authority

• Buckinghamshire Council

Residency Requirements (Additional Information)

If you live in the UK on a visa, we’ll need evidence of your visa to confirm funding. You can upload this when applying, and you’ll need to complete a short questionnaire.

Some exceptions include:

• Your visa must last until after your course ends.

• Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for at least 6 months while their claim is being processed.

• You are supported by your local authority under Section 23C or 23CA of the Children Act 1989, or under the Care Act 2014.

Anyone who does not meet the funding criteria would need to pay full course fees.
