About this course
This course invites learners to explore the expressive and meditative qualities of watercolour through the lens of pattern and abstraction. Designed for both beginners and those with some painting experience, the course emphasizes experimentation, visual rhythm, and personal expression.
Through guided exercises and creative prompts, learners will develop technical watercolour skills while exploring how repetition, shape, colour, and composition can be used to create compelling abstract and patterned artworks. Each week builds on the last, encouraging learners to discover their own visual language and artistic voice.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in exploring creativity through watercolour, whether you're a complete beginner or looking to develop your abstract and pattern-based painting skills.
By the end of the course you will be able to;
Identify and apply at least three core watercolour techniques (e.g., wet-on-wet, layering, dry brush) in the creation of abstract and patterned artworks.
Use geometric and organic shapes to develop structured and freeform patterns in watercolour compositions.
Demonstrate an understanding of basic colour theory by applying complementary, analogous, and monochromatic colour schemes in their work.
Experiment with visual contrast, balance, and focal points to enhance the impact of abstract compositions.
Design and complete a final abstract or patterned watercolour artwork that incorporates learned techniques and personal style.
Reflect on their creative process and articulate at least two personal insights gained through abstract painting.
