Community in action at Worksop Library Fun Palace

Published 22nd September 2022

Worksop Library will be opening its doors as a Fun Palace on Saturday 1 October with a day of FREE drop-in activities and experiences for everyone, including a spectacular Twiddlers Exhibition, showings of the LAND/NG film that was created in collaboration with Nottinghamshire communities, and more!

Fun Palace visitors can drop in at any time between 10am and 3pm to discover a variety of activities aimed at anyone of any age. Fun Palace will have over 30 different activities from organisations including:

·       ABL Health – Smoothie Bike and Beer Goggles

·       Inspire Learning – Stop Motion Animation

·       Ignite Futures – Science Busking

·       University of Sheffield – Women in Engineering

·       National Trust – Mr Straw’s House

·       The Harley Gallery

·       Worksop Town Football Club

·       From the Heart Charity

·       And many more!

Events are also being held at our partner venue The Aurora Wellbeing Centre where you can expect to find activities centered around your physical and mental wellbeing.

Fun Palace visitors will get the opportunity to experience the breathtaking wall of wool that is part of Inspire’s charity knitting challenge for 2022. An army of Nottinghamshire crafters have given their time, skills and wool to create this visually stunning exhibition filled with decorative hand-warmers called Twiddlers that are crafted to provide sensory stimulation or soothing comfort for people living with dementia.

This knitting challenge, which is supported by Your Health Your Way, Dementia Action Nottingham & Nottinghamshire and Creative Lives, is Inspire’s sixth annual crafting event for charity. Once the exhibition is over, Dementia Action Nottingham & Nottinghamshire will distribute over 700 Twiddlers across the county, and make sure people who will benefit from them most receive them.

Visitors to the library’s Fun Palace can also see a special screening of LAND/NG, a new film by artist Hetain Patel and the people of Nottinghamshire, created as part of the Mayflower 400 commemorations and filmed at Worksop Priory. Hetain Patel is an international artist and previous winner of the Jarman prize. The film will also be shown as part of The British Art Show.

Worksop Fun Palace is a wonderful community event and I’m delighted to see it back again this year. I hope that lots of residents will be able to take advantage of the fun, free activities their local library has to offer, both on the day of the event and all year round

Councillor John Cottee, Cabinet Member for Communities at Nottinghamshire County Council

We are excited to be welcoming visitors to our Worksop Library Fun Palace again this year! We hope that people of all ages will come along and take part in the free activities and see what we have on offer in the library. The library is at the heart of the community and events such as Fun Palace are a chance to bring everyone together.
