About this course

Zero waste sewing is all about using every bit of fabric so nothing goes to waste. Instead of cutting out traditional patterns that leave scraps behind, you plan your design to fit together on a length of fabric a bit like a puzzle. It’s a fun, creative way to sew that’s great for anyone who wants to learn to sew with both style and sustainability in mind. So are you ready to take your sewing skills to the next level while making a positive impact on the planet? This class is designed for passionate sewers who want to explore sustainable fashion through the art of zero waste design. In this workshop, we’ll dive into innovative techniques that minimize fabric waste, challenge traditional pattern-making, and encourage creative problem-solving. You’ll learn how to design and construct garments that are not only stylish and functional but also environmentally conscious. Whether you're looking to refine your pattern drafting skills, experiment with unconventional layouts, or simply reduce your sewing footprint, this class will inspire you to think differently about fabric, form, and function. Let’s stitch sustainability into every seam—one thoughtful project at a time. The course will begin with a recap of the basics, including how to thread up, adjust settings, and select the appropriate stitches. Even if you have limited experience, you’ll be guided step by step to build a solid foundation. You will also choose your first project, fabric and design. There will be several to choose from. By the end of the course, you will: Have a garment to take home Be able to work safely and confidently with a sewing machine Understand how simple zero waste patterns are used Have an understanding of different types of fabric and thread and be able to choose the correct ones for your project
