About this course

This course is for parents/carers and their children who are  between 6 months to 5 years.


This practical course will give ideas about how to support your child with literacy and art.


What will be covered on the course?  What will be taught to learners?

  • Adults and children work together to create and participate in a sensory story using everyday items.
  • To listen and be involved in telling the story of The Tale of Peter Rabbit using movement, sound effects and role play.
  • To learn five Makaton signs and use them in the story.
  • Adults and children work together to create bunny ears using 3D construction skills.

All sessions are mapped to the Early Learning Goals:


Literacy – Story Map, Sequencing, 

Physical Development – using movement/dance to tell the story/brain break activities

Communication and Language – Role Play, sensory story, listening with increasing attention and recall.

Expressive Arts and Design – 3D construction, making models.


What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • A range of strategies and activities for supporting their child/ren with fun and interactive learning. 
  • An insight into how to take a story as a basis for a wide learning experience.

Water and a snack may be useful.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
