This course will encourage you to slow down and really take notice of the things around you. This course DOES NOT focus on the technical aspects of photography. This course explore the wellbeing aspect of photography, combining simple mindful techniques, opportunities to slow down, reflect and relate emotions to your images. Some short walks in the local area will be included. This course supports positive mental health and will explore the 5 ways to wellbeing and the 3 pillars of mindfulness. The course will help you to slow down and become more curious, looking at your surroundings with fresh eyes.
Opportunities for quietness and stillness are embedded are part of the course. Each week we will work on a theme e.g. opposites – beautiful and ugly, curved and straight, dark and light. You will have time each week for reflection and contemplation.
What will learners achieve by the end of the course?
Learners will be able to clearly define mindfulness and identify the five ways to wellbeing.
Learners will identify three new observations regarding their surroundings which were previously unnoticed.
Learners will present their photographs and participate in a group discussion, sharing at least three emotions they felt while taking the photos.
Learners will maintain a weekly journal, documenting their reflections and sharing their insights during each session.
What you will need to bring to the course:
A fully charged device for taking photographs e.g. Smartphone or camera
Suitable clothing for the weather.

Residency in England
To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must be living in England permanently and live outside of the devolved areas listed below or live within the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) devolved area (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire).

Residency Eligibility – other criteria
If you are living in the UK on a visa we will require evidence of this in order to be funded for the course, you can upload this evidence when you apply for the course. (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
Some exceptions may apply for example
Your visa expiry date must be beyond the end of your course
Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for 6 months or longer while their claim is being considered by the Home Office
You are receiving local authority support under section 23C or section 23CA of the Children Act 1989 or the Care Act 2014
Any learner who is not funded, full cost fees would apply to these courses.
