About this course

The aim of this five-hour course is to provide learners with an introduction to manual bookkeeping practices.  


This course is suitable for anyone at the starting point of a career in bookkeeping and accounts or those wishing to enhance their skills to progress their career.  


It is ideal for those working in, or looking to gain employment in, a job role such as Accounts Trainee or Finance Clerk, or for anyone looking for a refresher course in bookkeeping skills. 


There is no exam at the end of this course.


Course Summary:


The manual processing of source documents that underpin accurate record keeping will evaluate learners' abilities to produce accounts for businesses.


Course topics include:

  • maintaining the cash book; 
  • an introduction to ledger accounts (sales, purchases and general ledger)
  • the balance sheet.  

Information about bookkeeping practices will be shared through explanation, demonstration and group discussions.  Learners will receive a variety of documentation to process so they will be able to learn, develop and practice basic bookkeeping skills required for employment.  


By the end of the course, you will:

  • Transfer the total(s) of a variety of source documents to the respective ledger account(s) and balance off ledger accounts; 
  • Maintain the cash book;
  • Produce a balance sheet.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
