About this course

The qualifications are intended to be accessible to a wide range of learners of all abilities. Learners can develop a ‘hands-on’ approach to their learning and gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding in their chosen vocational area(s). The skills, knowledge and understanding gained may help learners prepare for work through real or simulated work situations and may contribute to preparing them for working life beyond education.

In order for learners to achieve this qualification they will need to successfully complete 2 units (Please see below):

  • Unit 48 Spreadsheet software (A/502/4624) This unit is designed for learners who wish to know how to use a spreadsheet to enter, edit and organise numerical and other.
  • Unit 49 Word processing software (L/502/4627) This unit is designed for learners who wish to know how to use word processing software to input, structure, format and present documents effectively.

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.


Please note:

The qualification title on the certificate will be Level 1 Award in Occupational Studies, the units in word processing and spreadsheets will appear on the content of achievement page that comes with the main certifcate.

Booking your place and fee information

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:

  • Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield 
  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
  • Greater London
  • Greater Manchester
  • Liverpool City Region
  • Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland
  • Tees Valley

1) FREE - if you earn less than £20,319 gross salary or are on a means-tested benefit.

2) PAYMENT HELP AVAILABLE - if you earn more than £20,319 (annual gross salary) but are on a low-income, we might be able to help pay part or all of your course fees. Email: learning@inspireculture.org.uk for an application form or if you have any questions.

3) CO-FUNDED - if you are on a higher-income, the government will pay approximately half of your course fees.
