Do you want to study for a Level 2 maths qualification but need a little extra support with English?
Understand the maths but not the English mathematical terms and vocabulary?
Why not sign up for this short 5-week course covering key mathematical vocabulary with fellow learners with English as an additional language.
It is hoped learners will develop their confidence with conversational English then transfer onto the Functional Skills Maths accredited qualifcation starting after February half-term.
By the end of the course, you will be able to,
- write numbers in words and digits
- recognise coins and notes, compare values, and discuss comparisons with familiar currencies
- compare methods of calculation of groceries and check change
- understand larger numbers used in rents and large purchases
- be aware of British conventions of the 12 hour clock and convert to 24 hour clock
- say and write dates
- evaluate differences in formats of number-based instructions, including timetables, road signs, doctors waiting rooms, prescriptions
This course is suitable for,
- 19+
- learners whose first language is not English
- learners who don’t have a level 2 qualification in maths (GCSE C/4 or above) or do, but are not confident in using maths at this level. You will self-declare this on the enrolment form.
