In this short taster course, you’ll start speaking basic Spanish from day one while discovering useful phrases for travel and everyday conversation. This course if perfect if you're planning a holiday, dreaming of exploring Spanish-speaking countries, or thinking about joining a longer course – this is your first step into the language and culture of Spain and Latin America.
In this beginner-friendly taster course, you’ll learn the basics of Spanish in a relaxed and supportive environment. We’ll focus on essential vocabulary and simple phrases to help you feel confident using Spanish in everyday situations – especially when travelling.
You’ll practise greetings and introductions, ordering food and drinks, asking for directions, shopping, and talking about yourself and your plans. Alongside language skills, you’ll also discover cultural highlights from both Spain and Latin America, helping you to understand local customs and traditions that will enrich your travel experience.
The emphasis is on speaking and listening, with plenty of chances to practise in pairs and groups. You’ll also develop some basic reading and writing skills to support your communication.
This course is ideal if you:
• Have no prior knowledge of Spanish or studied it a long time ago.
• Want to try out Spanish before committing to a longer course.
• Are planning a trip and want to use the language with confidence.
No previous experience is needed – just bring your enthusiasm and curiosity!
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
1. Greet others and introduce yourself in Spanish using basic phrases with correct pronunciation.
2. Order food and drinks in a café or restaurant using set expressions and key vocabulary.
3. Ask for and understand simple directions, numbers, and place names commonly used in travel contexts.
4. Give basic personal information such as your name, nationality, and where you’re from.
5. Recognise key cultural differences between Spain and Latin America and demonstrate awareness of local customs.
6. Use a small range of high-frequency words and expressions to participate in short role-plays or guided dialogues.
These outcomes are designed to be achievable within the short timeframe of a taster course and will give you a solid foundation for further study.
