About this course

Be prepared when you go into the great outdoors. This course aims to equip the learner with the techniques/skills needed to safely navigate and engage with our beautiful countryside. On this course you will explore the need for appropriate clothing, suitable food and drink, the weather, in addition to developing basic skills of route planning and correctly using a compass and map.

At the end of this course, you will be able to plan a short local route using developing map reading skills; give a grid reference, understand and calculate timings, pacings and how to take and walk on a bearing.

Suitable for beginners.

You may be outside for some of this course, please wear suitable warm clothing and sensible footwear.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
