This course is suitable for people who have some knowledge of composition, tone and value. Large-scale drawings will be worked on to enable you to really investigate the process of change, the buildup of marks, and the abstract potential of charcoal on paper. Through the process of repetition and layering, you’ll work out the composition until the surface is covered, working further, rubbing out, sticking on to find a connection to the space and energy of the great outdoors.
By the end of the course, you will be more confident in visually editing an image in your own way. You will complete several small- and large-scale drawings on paper and cover topics such as:
- An appreciation of the diverse possibilities of expressive drawing.
- An understanding of the right questions to ask yourself when approaching expressive landscape drawing
- A sharper understanding of what visual clues are emerging from your contemplation of landscape – past, present and future.
- The technical confidence to describe landscape in your own way.
Acrylic paper/sketch pad, A4 canvases, a range of charcoals, baby wipes, cotton rags.
The art materials are to be discussed during the first session of the course when the tutor will cover the topic.
