About this course

The course is offering you an in-depth approach to landscape painting, more suitable for improvers.  The Peak District, one of the last pockets of wilderness still remaining in England, is the main subject for this painting course. 

Working from photographs, this course will give you plenty of instruction from your tutor, as well as informal group critiques and discussions, all helping to increase your knowledge and enjoyment of landscape painting in Acrylics.

Learners will know how to use quick and bold marks with thick paint to create an expressive landscape in acrylics. We will explore how colour, texture an perspectives create a specific place linked with the Peak District landscape. 

The course will cover: 

  • Artist research: Haidee Jo Summers and David Curtis
  • Working out innovative compositions and poses
  • Using a bright, colourful palette, with dynamic and bold mark making
  • Painting techniques: impasto, scumbling, sgrafitto using different tools

You will need:

  • 40 by 50 cm stretched canvas/ Canvas board
  •  Acrylic paper
  • Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, and Titanium White acrylic paint
  • White acrylic gesso
  • Palette
  • Glycerin
  • Spray bottle
  • A range of synthetic paint brushes
  • Graphite pencils
  • Metal palette knife
  • Silicone spatula
  • Photo reference

As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course.  Zoom will be used for the live sessions and the link will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

To secure your place on the course both the following must be done:

  • Complete our Inspire Online Enrolment Form for each person attending the course

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
