About this course

This course aims to give you a good understanding of different processes and techniques to create watercolour paintings. You will develop skills to use a variety of techniques to build confidence and start creating your own unique pieces.

By the end of the course, you will know:  

  • how to prepare for painting: watercolour papers, paint consistency & brushes 
  • colour theory and colour mixing 
  • watercolour techniques: washes, glazes, wet in wet, dry brush, glazing, and more. 
  • elements of composition & perspective 
  • shape, pattern, and texture

Learners should bring:

  • apron  
  • a pencil and a rubber 
  • a selection of different paintbrushes – flat and round
  • A4 sized watercolour paper 140lbs/300gsm (The Works, The Range, Wilko, Hobbycraft, Amazon) 
  • watercolour paints (The Works, The Range, Hobbycraft, Amazon) 
  • water pots x2 
  • a palette with wells 
  • wet wipes 
  • paper towel 
  • masking tape

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
