About this course

In the Printed Textiles for Beginners we will be learning how to use the screen-printing process as an introduction to producing work on fabric.  No previous printing or textiles experience is necessary, just an interest and curiosity to learn new things!

You will learn how to select appropriate source materials from your own or supplied source material (photographs or drawings). You will then use these images to develop your own repeat pattern, which you will use to print a range of samples using different colourways.  You will also select and mix your own printing inks. Your final selected design will be hand-painted to add detail.

You will explore the potential of the process through discussion of other artists and designers work and by demonstrations, personal experimentation and individual tuition.

By the end of the course everyone will have explored and gained confidence in screen-printing repeat patterns onto fabrics, which have the potential to be turned into everyday, useful products like cushion covers, aprons or tea towels, as well as gaining skills for future art and design work.

What will be covered on the course?

  • Looking at and discussing how other artists and designers have used repeat patterns and screen printing to produce creative imagery.
