Printmaking Collagraphs is an ideal course for those who are new to printmaking and for anyone who is interested in exploring texture and surface in their creative work.
During the course you will make a range of your own cardboard plates, experimenting with using textured papers and scribed marks to create an image from visual source materials. You will then use them to print both black and white and coloured prints, which can be printed onto paper and fabric.
You will learn and explore the process through looking at and discussing other printmakers work and by demonstrations, personal experimentation and individual tuition on how to make and print your collagraph plates.
By the end of the course everyone will have produced good quality, finished prints to mount and exhibit or to give as gifts.
The course will involve:
- Looking at and discussing how other printmakers have created their work.
- Using simple drawing techniques to create an initial design based on learners' own images or photographs. (Those new to drawing can work from others imagery).
- Using textured paper and thread and scribed (scratched) lines to create a collagraph plate.
- Becoming familiar with the printmaking equipment and learning the correct terminology.
- Mixing and using water soluble etching inks to print collagraph plates onto paper and fabrics using effective colourways.
- Printing using a printing press.
