About this course

Lino Printing is an ideal process for both beginners and experienced printmakers. It is a simple relief printing process that works through developing and using graphic contrast and mark making skills. During the course you will be introduced to two different ways of making a lino print. Traditional black and white contrast printing and colour reduction lino printing.

You will learn and explore the process through looking at and discussing other printmakers' work and by demonstrations, personal experimentation and individual tuition on how to design, cut and print your image.

By the end of the course everyone will have produced good quality, finished prints to mount and exhibit or to give as gifts.

The course will involve:

- Looking at and discussing how other printmakers have created their Lino prints.

- Using drawing to create an initial design based on learners' own drawings or photographs. (Those new to drawing can work from others imagery).

- Identifying areas of the image to cut away to create contrast and marking this onto design.

- Transferring design onto Lino.

- Becoming familiar with the printmaking equipment and learning the correct terminology.

- Cutting Lino safely and creatively using contrast and mark making.

- Mixing and using water soluble inks.

- Printing using a printing press.
