What to expect from our Inspire online library events

Events will generally take place via Zoom (www.zoom.us) - often as a meeting but larger events may use the webinar format.

We will ask you to book in advance and to give an email address and phone number so that we can communicate all the details about the event and contact you if there are any problems. We will not share your information or contact you about other things without your permission. Our data protection privacy statement is published online https://www.inspireculture.org.uk/about-us/inspire-privacy-policy/

We use Eventbrite to manage bookings and you will receive the link to access Zoom 24 hours before the start time. An automatic reminder is usually generated 2 days before the event. It is possible, depending on your own computer settings, that the messages may be directed to your junk mail folder. Do please check there if you have not received emails at this point.

You can contact the organiser via Eventbrite if you have any queries about the booking or event. Or you can get in touch with us via the Ask Inspire service:
https://www.inspireculture.org.uk/reading-information/information-services/ask-inspire/

If you need to email us on the day of the event, please use the email address: culture@inspireculture.org.uk

Refunds are not available for Inspire events unless they are cancelled by the organiser.

Technical requirements:
A unique link will be emailed 24 hours in advance of the event to the email address you provided when you booked. This is for the use of the ticket holder only.

The recommended equipment needed for online sessions is

  • A PC/Laptop, iPad/tablet or ‘phone that can run Zoom (an app may need to be downloaded if using an iPad/tablet or ‘phone) with a webcam and microphone
  • Good power supply
  • Minimum 2 mbps broadband speed

During an Inspire Culture team Zoom event:

  • A Waiting room, or a registration process, will be in place to allow access to ticket-holders. We advise that you activate the link to Zoom 10-15 minutes before the event to check for any technical problems. The host will admit everyone promptly at the start time.
  • We ask that you sign into Zoom with the same details you used in the booking so that we can check participants against the list of ticket holders.
  • A member of Inspire staff will host the event, manage questions and handle any issues arising.
  • Microphones will usually be muted to reduce the impact on audio quality and stability during the speaker’s presentation. We may sometimes ask that cameras are turned off to minimise technical issues. However, please note that on-screen participatory Zoom events aimed specifically at children require the camera to be turned on for safeguarding reasons.
  • If you are having technical problems, but others are not affected, we suggest leaving and re-joining the event as that may help to restore the connection.
  • The Q&A or Chat function will be available for questions. If there are too many to answer in the time available, the host will select from the list.
  • Some of our events are one-off, live, experiences and are not recorded, so please do check this to avoid disappointment.
  • Please do not record sessions yourself, or take screenshots or photographs, as this would be a breach of data protection legislation
  • The times given for our events are based on local time in the UK. If you are joining us from another country, please check that you have taken this into account.
  • Where possible, our online events will have auto-generated captions.
  • We will offer the opportunity for you to give feedback on the event and appreciate hearing your views.
  • Please consider the safety, comfort and privacy of other attendees and yourself. Comments via Chat or Q&A may be visible to all attendees. Don’t share any personal details or respond to contact requests from people you don’t know.

Our aim is to provide an interesting and engaging event where everyone feels welcome.
