The UK’s biggest annual reading for pleasure programme for primary aged children returns to Inspire libraries with a science an innovation themed challenge this summer.
We'd love schools to help us spread the word to encourage Nottinghamshire children to get involved and have a range to resources to support you.
What is the Summer Reading Challenge?

Produced by The Reading Agency and run in partnership with libraries across the country the Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to keep children reading over the summer. Taking part can help avoid the potential dip in reading levels over the long summer break and provides free fun for 4 – 11 year olds.
This year's challenge invites children to join the Gadgeteers - six young innovators who, using creative thinking and teamwork, plan a party for their town's summer celebration.
Developed in partnership with the Science Museum Group, Gadgeteers will celebrate – science, creative thinking and teamwork.
The challenge runs in Inspire libraries from 9 July until 4 September.
How does the Summer Reading Challenge work?
- Children sign up at the library to start their challenge.
- Borrow books from the library - children choose the books they want to read; stories, fact books, joke books – all reading counts.
- For every book read, children will pick up stickers along with other rewards as they progress through the challenge.
- Every child who completes the challenge by reading six library books, receives a medal and certificate.
