Within this course you will start your story into Bobbin Lace Making, a heritage craft with rich and long history; dating from the 1500’s. You will gain experience of the equipment and look at different styles of Bobbin Lace from around the world.
Over the course you learn the background of the stitches used in Bobbin Lace and create samples which can be created into brooch or cards, to show off your craft skills. This course is suitable for all – no previous craft experience required
If you have previous knowledge, then the tutor will develop an individual plan that meets your aims to develop your lacemaking skills.
Over the sessions there will be an introduction to the equipment of lacemaking, and we will look at the two stitches of Bobbin Lace.
You will gain an understanding of being able to read a pattern and know how to do simple starts and finishers.
Each week we look at a bit of the rich history of lace in the world and some of the current lace artists and the development of Bobbin Lace in the 21st Century.
Equipment can be used in class from the tutor, but if learners have lacemaking equipment, please bring it along
