About this course

A course for adults concerned with keeping their children safer online. Introducing the 3 Cs: Content, Contact and Conduct and how they relate to a child’s experience on the internet.

Due to the nature of the discussions, it is a course for parents only.

What will be covered on the course?

  • Content: Safe image search, PEGI game ratings
  • Contact: Online predators: how they build trust and then coerce and blackmail their victims. Online bullies and ‘trolls’
  • Conduct: Awareness of your own child’s online behaviour. What risks might they be taking? Addiction, illegal downloads/file sharing, bullying other users.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • Learners will understand a range of ways to keep their children safe from inappropriate content.
  • Leaners will recognise the warning signs of predatory behaviour: this will help them have discussions with their children about who they can trust online and when to be cautious.
  • Learners will be more aware of any online behaviour which might have legal and/or financial implications.

Please note this course does not involve any ‘hands on’ computer use. Some familiarity with browsing websites and reading emails will be beneficial.
