About this course

Mixed Media Art will give you the opportunity to explore a range of experimental mixed media techniques including collage, pen, and inks, colour pencils, painting, stenciling and hand stitching. We will be focusing on using these techniques in different ways to build up compositions on paper, card, or small canvases.

This course will teach you new ways of thinking and working with different media along with practical advice on colour theory, colour mixing, techniques and exploring composition ideas for abstract art.

By the end of the course you will have explored and gained confidence in a range of experimental, creative techniques, produced some effective developmental images, and gained skills for future art and design work.

This course aims to give learners a good understanding of different processes and techniques to create mixed media art. Learners will develop skills to use a variety of materials, techniques, and tools to confidently create their own unique pieces.

Learners should bring:

• Apron or a big shirt

• A pencil and a rubber

• A selection of different paintbrushes

• A4 Cartridge paper (The Works, The Range, Wilko, Hobbycraft, Amazon)

• Small canvases and mini canvases (The Works, The Range, Wilko, Hobbycraft, Amazon)

• Acrylic paints – a selection of colours - but even basic colours, such as primary colours plus white would be useful (paints do not have to be expensive ones, the cheaper ones from the The Works are great, but The Range also have a good selection. Paints can also be purchased from Hobbycraft or Amazon.)

• Watercolour paints

• Pencil crayons (water soluble or regular)

• Wax crayons or oil pastel (if you have any)

• Wet wipes

• Paper towel

• Scissors

• Embroidery needle
