We are all familiar with these women, or are we? This course will look at their lives and experiences from their perspective. Were they helpless tools in the hands of ambitious men; or did they play a role in their own destinies? Come and examine the lives of these very different women; and make your own mind up.
Through attending this course, you will gain an understanding of 16th century England and the role of women, learn about the lives of these six women, the families they came from, their education and their beliefs. Evaluate the impact the women had on the wider political, social and religious spheres and discover what impact, if any, the new ideas of the 16th century have on them. We will also look at several sources, primary and secondary, and examine how they have been portrayed through different mediums through the ages.
