About this course

An introduction into the careers available working with children.

  • We will look across the range of careers available to adults who wish to work with children. These covers from becoming a self-employed child minder in your own home to professional qualifications.
  • We will consider the skills needed to work with children.
  • We will investigate the entrance qualifications required to access courses for working with children, including the Access Course offered by Inspire Learning.
  • We will look at the procedures to obtain a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.
  • We will discover the range of courses from level 1 to Degree level for careers working with children.
  • We will look at the support available from the Way 2 work project through Inspire Learning.

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • You will have knowledge of the careers available for working with children.
  • You will understand the entrance qualifications to different career pathways – eg child minding, teaching assistant; social work; nursing; occupational therapist.
  • You will be able to access a range of websites and resources to support you in your career journey.

What skills or knowledge do learners already need to have to attend the course?

  • None.

To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:

  • Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield

  • Greater London

  • Liverpool City Region
