To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been a resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in the UK with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).


This employability course covers a selected range bookkeeping basics in six hours.  It will give you a broad understanding of how a simple set of ‘sole trader’ books might be kept and improved confidence in recording and controlling your business activities effectively. 

On this course we will cover:

  • A brief guide to your key financial documents, such as sales invoices, purchase invoices and controlling your stock of goods. 
  • A brief walk through the cash book, the sales ledger and the purchase ledger and other books related to prime entry.  
  • The role of the general ledger and trial balance. 
  • A brief summary of where the figures go on the profit and loss account (an income and expenditure statement) and balance sheet (a statement of the financial position). 
  • Calculating VAT.

This is an online course. A suitable electronic device such as a laptop, tablet or smartphone with internet access will be required. Learners will be required to download and use Zoom (free software).
