About this course

The course is highly suited to individuals who would like to increase their own fitness levels and achieve a healthier lifestyle. By using the principles of training as a framework, participants will be able to begin planning a training programme that uses scientific principles to improve performance, skill, game ability, and physical fitness. Upon completion of the course, you will have obtained the skills to begin to design a successful training programme to suit individuals with differing personal fitness needs based on age, gender, fitness level, and the sport for which they are training.


What will be covered on the course?  What will be taught to learners? 

  •  The principles of training and overload. 
  • How the principles of training can be applied to bring about improvements in fitness. 
  • The distinctions between different types of training. 
  • Identification of the advantages and disadvantages (the effects on the body) of training types linked to specific aims. 

What will learners achieve by the end of the course? 

  • Learners will be able to describe the principles of exercise and fitness.  
  • Learners will be able to demonstrate an understanding of safety factors relating to exercise. 
  • Learners will be able to outline the principles of a training programme. 
  • Learners will be able to identify and improve their own levels of fitness and/or be in a position to assist others.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Learners will require-

 To secure your place on the course BOTH the following must be done:

  • Complete the EVENTBRITE BOOKING.
  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

You should be redirected to the Inspire Online Enrolment Form after completing the Eventbrite booking.  If you are not redirected, please use the link supplied in the Eventbrite booking confirmation email.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:

  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool City Region, Tees Valley, West Midlands and West of England.
