On this criminology-based course we will be studying the Murder Map of Nottinghamshire – the most notorious crimes in our county: what, why, how and, of course, who dunnit.  We will look at the national murder picture and see how Nottinghamshire compares.

The most notorious examples of murder and murderers in Nottinghamshire, such as Susan and Christopher Edwards from Mansfield (soon to be a TV drama starring Olivia Coleman); Daniel Bartlam from Redhill and of course Bestwood’s most notorious resident, Harold Shipman.

Part of the journey around the murder map includes looking at issues such as what makes a murderer, what drives a serial killer, what sort of cases are at risk of ‘going cold’ and at what age a person should be criminally responsible for their crimes (in England it is 10 years old).

Learners are very welcome to suggest cases or issues they would like to include in the course content.

The course consists of fascinating topics but not gory or upsetting details.

You may wish to bring a pen and paper to make notes
