Call out for Digital Artists

Inspire Youth Arts are looking for experienced digital artists to join their pool of freelance artists delivering exciting, creative and innovative digital projects across the county of Nottinghamshire. The deadline for ending Expression of Interest and CV is Monday 15 September, 8am.

Who we are  

Inspire Youth Arts (IYA) deliver regular term-time sessions, bespoke school holiday projects, and unique experiences in music, dance, and digital art. We collaborate with artists, partners, and cultural organisations from across Nottinghamshire, the Midlands, and nationally.  

We are based at The Old Library, Mansfield and deliver work across schools, colleges and professional arts venues in Nottingham/shire.  

Access and inclusion are at the centre of everything we do. We are committed to providing equitable opportunities and creative agency for all young people. We actively encourage young people with a physical and/or learning disability and/or who are neurodivergent to take part. 

Our Digital Youth Offer 

Our dynamic Digital Programme empowers young people to explore and develop skills in cutting-edge digital art.  Previously, IYA have shared digital work annually at Nottingham Light Night, and are the producers for the inclusive music and digital project, Able Orchestra

What we are looking for 

We are looking for experienced digital artists to deliver a range of digital arts sessions/projects to young people across Nottinghamshire.  

This might include one or more of the following digital disciplines:  

  • sound and light installations  
  • lighting design 
  • film-making 
  • Animation 
  • Photography 
  • Digital drawing, painting and illustration 
  • Audio Visual 
  • Virtual Reality 
  • Augmented Reality 
  • Mixed Reality 

The work that IYA may offer to their pool of artists includes (but is not limited to): 

  • Taster delivery in schools and community settings: A one-off and/or short- term offer to young people/partners to try a digital session.  

  • Longer-term projects, delivered typically over 6-12 weeks with an outcome/sharing at the end. These usually align with the school term and could be delivered during the school day or on evenings/weekends. 

  • Short-term intensive projects, typically delivered over 3-5 days with an outcome/sharing at the end. These usually happen during school holiday times.  


Inspire Youth Arts places equality, inclusion, access, and diversity at the heart of our work. We welcome applications from physical and/or learning disabled and/or neurodivergent people and those who are members of other structurally disadvantaged groups including those from the Global Majority, LGBTQIA+ people and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.   


Criteria: 

Essential:  

  • Professional experience working as a digital practitioner/artist and/or a relevant qualification. 
  • Experience of delivering high quality inclusive sessions using digital techniques  
  • The ability to use a wide range of technology and media and adapt approaches for young people depending on the individuals’ level of skill, experience, and access needs. Examples might include one or more of the disciplines listed above. 
  • The ability to plan, structure and deliver inclusive digital art sessions with young people, working towards set objectives and outcomes. 
  • Working knowledge and access to various digital applications and software. 
  • Excellent time-keeping and organisational skills.  
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.  
  • An ability to work flexibly, responsively, and calmly under pressure. 
  • Willing and able to travel to across the county of Nottinghamshire. 

Desirable: 

  • Experience of delivering high quality inclusive sessions with young people aged 9-25 
  • Experience of working alongside musicians, dancers and/or music and dance projects. 
  • A network of relevant contacts and opportunities that could benefit the project.   
  • Confidence to innovate and try new approaches to digital production/innovation with young people. 
  • Experience of working with support artist/support staff.

What next? 

If we feel you are a good fit for our programme, you will be invited to an informal chat online over Zoom during the weeks of 15 and 22 September.  

If you are invited to join the pool, you will be asked to complete the following processes before being invited onto any upcoming projects: 

  • An enhanced DBS check through Inspire 
  • Induction 
  • Finance supplier set-up 
  • GDPR and Safeguarding Training 
  • Public liability insurance up to £5 million
