Run by Inspire Youth Arts, The Proto-Type Immersive Arts project is aimed at people aged between 16-24. This mentoring scheme aims to build students skills and experience within the world of digital arts.
Working with local digital art company Urban Projections, last cohorts of students have worked on, and developed, the amazing States of Matter installation at St Mary’s Church in Nottingham which was viewed by over 4,000 people as part of the city’s Light Night festival, and Re-Move: the 2023 Light Night Installation.
With a combination of studio-based sessions and online tutorials, the Urban Projections tutors work with students on areas such as projection mapping, interactive design, augmented reality and motion design to explore forms of digital creative output. No previous experience is required but an interest in digital art and a willingness to learn are key.
Proto-Type launched again in 2025/26, aimed at a slightly different age group of 15 - 18 (or up to 25 with a disability or neurodivergent). The current areas of focus include digital drawing, 3D modelling, projection mapping and Virtual Reality. Proto-Type create, experiment, collaborate and develop their artistic practises and work towards small and large-scale projects.
Applications open again in Summer 2026 for project activity in holiday periods and at weekends between October 2026-March 2027.
