We're supporting mental health awareness, starting on 10th September World Suicide Prevention Day through to World Mental Health Day on 10th October.
Suicide, self-harm and mental health can be difficult topics and conversations to have, so the campaign calls on everyone—individuals, communities, and organisations—to ‘Start the Conversation,’ with the aim of raising awareness, reducing stigma, and preventing suicides. Statistics show that in 2018, over 6,800 people died by suicide in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Whether you're feeling low and looking for mental health support in the form of our Reading Well collection, or seeking advice for a loved one, your local library can provide you with resources and information to help.If you require further assistance or support, reach out immediately by contacting the organisations below:

Reading Well is a collection of expert-recommended titles to help you to understand and manage your health and wellbeing. The books provide information and advice for people with various physical and mental health conditions, their family, friends and carers - and are available in your local library! Immerse yourself in a new hobby
Our Inspire Learning courses explore lots of skills and hobbies that are calming and provide an outlet or distraction from the stress of everyday life. Check out our courses in crochet, macrame, watercolour painting and more in our newest Adult Learning guide. Or, why not gain a qualification in Mental Health Awareness? Our accredited course takes place over 4 sessions and explores issues, myths and misconceptions around mental health.
Meeting new people can be difficult but our libraries make it easy with informal and friendly events for all. Enjoy a complimentary drink at our Places of Welcome coffee mornings, craft in company at our many adult craft groups, or simply spend time with us in a safe and welcoming space.
