About this course

Building on How to Write for Children, where we looked at today’s children’s books, this course gives you the tools and knowledge to tackle writing your own stories for children. Now you know which age group you want to write for, it’s time to create lively characters which reflect our inclusive and diverse society and blend them with exciting action which builds to a satisfying ending.

  • This is an intermediate course. It is helpful to have done the previous Inspire course How to Write for Children.

We will have a refresher of Ages and Stages – children’s books from picture books to young adult novels (YA). Explore the age groups and begin to focus on which age group(s) you want to write for.  We will cover the importance of dialogue and action in children’s stories and techniques for building age-appropriate characters.  How to develop feedback skills in a group
