Gell Plate Printing - Kirkby in Ashfield Library - Adult Learning

About this course

You will be introduced to the basic methods of ‘inking’ your plate and transferring the print to paper. You will be shown a variety of simple methods to add layers of interest, colour and patterns to your work using stencils and mark-making tools.  

Within the course you will use your own beautiful imagery and transform them into greeting cards, tags etc  

On this course you will learn about and explore the process of using Gelli Plates as a printing tool. Through demonstration, personal experimentation and individual tuition you will learn different printing techniques. You will learn how to use natural objects, stencils, printed items and textured items to create small prints.  

By the end of the course, you will have learnt a variety of ways to produce beautiful surface designs and patterned papers. We will use some of these prints to create gifts - such as bookmarks, tags etc.  

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?  

• Gain understanding equipment; - gel plate 
• Explain the differences between paints available 
• Knowledge of Pattern theory & Formation 
• How to create depth to printed surface 
• How to create layering techniques 

You will need: 

• Apron or a big shirt  
• A4 Cartridge paper pad  - alternative bring in your junk mail & envelopes 
• Acrylic paints – a selection of colours - but even basic colours, such as primary colours plus white would be useful   
• Palette or old plate for mixing colours - can be useful 
• Gel Plate & Brayer - if you have these, otherwise a set will be provided for you to use on the course   
• Wet wipes

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
