About this course

The course is aimed at beginners and those who have done some poetry writing but are not consistently published and will focus on developing learners’ skills so that they become more confident and are able take their poetry writing to the 

next level. 


The course will be workshop style, lively and supportive with lots of opportunity for discussion and feedback on learners’ work. Each week we will also look at a poem by a contemporary  published poet 


What will be covered on the course?  

  • Become  more confident about writing poetry 
  • Develop their own ways of finding inspiration 
  • Learn how to draft and edit a new poem 
  • Find language  to offer constructive feedback on a poem 
  • Learn more about the contemporary poetry scene and some contemporary poets 
  • Learn some techniques used by published poets to create a strong piece of writing

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
