Winter Mini Challenge 2023 - Ready, Set, Read!

The Ready, Set Read Winter Mini Challenge has ended, but look out for the next challenge, coming winter 2024!

The Winter Mini Challenge came back for 2023! This online challenge invited children aged 4 - 11 to read three books or more, between 1 December and 19 February, to earn digital rewards.

Following the popular Ready, Set, Read! Summer Reading Challenge - which saw over 10,000 children in Nottinghamshire take part - the Ready, Set, Read! team came back for a Winter Mini Challenge.

Children joined Alesha, Naomi, Naveen, Noah, Ollie and Sophia and as they wrapped up warm for a winter walk and unleashed the power of play, sport and physical activity through reading.

How to take part

Taking part in the Winter Mini Challenge is simple.   

  • Sign up at to create an online profile (if you took part in the Summer Reading Challenge online you might have a profile already).  Children will be asked to provide a parent/carer email address to approve signup.
  • Read at least 3 books over the holidays. 
  • Rate and review the books on the Winter Mini Challenge website to unlock a virtual badge and download a certificate to print.

The Winter Mini Challenge 2023 ran from Thursday 1 December until Monday 19 February 2024.

What books can be read on the Winter Mini Challenge?
