Who we are:

Inspire: Culture, Learning and Libraries is a charitable community benefit society delivering cultural and learning services across Nottinghamshire.

Story so far:

Inspire secured Arts Council funding to develop Early Years visual arts. We commissioned early years consultants to train a team of five artists to adapt their arts practice to be suitable for early years and to identify the developmental milestones the activities help the child achieve. The artists delivered workshops in early years settings and libraries with families to test and improve the offer as a piece of action research.

The next phase of the funding is to develop the workshop activities and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) knowledge into a product that can be issued from libraries like a book.

What we want:

A creative designer to work with us to present a brilliant range of twenty-five creative activities for early years children. The activities have been developed by a team of five artists. We want elements of their action research to be evident and the value and importance of creative expression to be foremost.  We want the activities to be presented in an original way that will appeal to children and adults and be easy to follow.

We will commission: a specialist in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the team of five artists, a printer and any additional creatives needed to meet the proposed realisation of the product.

From our research we are aiming to:

• transform and develop the workshop sessions into a product
• provide parents/carers with tools to engage their children in art activities at home
• support Library and childcare staff to deliver early years art sessions
• extend the reach of the product to other library authorities and early years settings

Content will be provided, including:

• Step by step instructions
• List of materials needed
• Activity description
• Branding
• Photographs
• References to the EYFS framework

What we need from you:

Your creative response! We want to know what you think the product could be and how it could look. Please send us an outline proposal of how you might approach the brief and an idea of how you visualise the product. These are some prompts to help you think about what you might do.

• How will it be used?

We will accept any form of application:

• Written (Max one side of A4)
• Audio (Max 2 mins)
• Drawn (Max A2)
• Filmed (Max 2 mins)

We want to work with new and/or established creatives but would like to see some examples of your work that will help us know more about your practice. This might be:

• Podcasts
• Something else…? 

Delivery timeline

We would like to complete the design stage by spring 2022
